Wednesday 8th March Blog

Good Morning!

Hope everyone is doing well on this fine Wednesday morning!

The weather is starting to look up now, with highs of 10º today, and highs of 10º tomorrow, with a very low chance of rain today and tomorrow.

Switzerland has been named the best country in the world, according to US News and World Report. The country earned it's place at the top due to it's progressive social systems, protection of human rights and business friendly environment.

Happy International Women's day! Today is the day to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It all started in 1908 when critical debate was occurring amongst women. Women's injustice and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. In that year, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and voting rights. However, International Women's Day was first honoured in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on the 19th March. In 1913 after discussions, the day was transferred to thre 8th March. International Women's Day was first celebrated by the United Nations in 1975. It has been celebrated every year since then.

Good news for people who take any excuse to get out of work- we could be getting an extra public holiday this year! To celebrate the Queen's sapphire (65 years) jubilee in June, MPs will debate whether threre should be an extra holiday. MP Andrew Rosindell said it would be a "missed opportunity"if the country didn't celebrate the achievement.
