What is ENplus?

A World-Leading Quality Scheme

ENplus® is a globally recognised, transparent, and independent certification scheme for wood pellets. From production to delivery, it guarantees quality while actively combatting fraud throughout the entire supply chain.

What Does ENplus® Certify?

In less than a decade, ENplus® has become a global benchmark for wood pellet quality. The certification covers the entire supply chain, ensuring that every stakeholder follows clear guidelines, undergoes rigorous monitoring, and receives proper training to maintain consistent quality.

The certification also guarantees that wood pellets meet specific technical criteria. ENplus® pellets are tested for:

  • Length and diameter

  • Mechanical durability

  • Percentage of fines

  • Bulk density

  • Ash and moisture content

  • Calorific values

  • Percentage of additives

By maintaining these high standards, ENplus® ensures that pellet-fuelled appliances operate efficiently and reliably.

Rigorous Requirements for Superior Quality

One of the key strengths of ENplus® is its rigorous requirements. While the ISO 17225-2 international standard forms the foundation of ENplus®, our scheme goes beyond these requirements, particularly in areas such as mechanical durability, percentage of fines, and ash deformation temperature.

These standards are enforced by an extensive network of independent auditors and partners, ensuring the consistent quality of ENplus® pellets. The certification process includes annual official inspections, unannounced inspections, and a strict complaint resolution system. Additionally, ENplus® is the only scheme that certifies the entire supply chain, from production to delivery. To maintain high standards, all supply chain contributors follow detailed guidelines and receive specialised training, ensuring consistency in pellet quality.

A Global Leader in Wood Pellet Certification

In just over a decade, ENplus® has grown into a widely recognised and trusted certification brand for wood pellet quality. With over 1,200 certified companies in more than 50 countries, it has established itself as the leading certification scheme in the industry. In 2023, ENplus® surpassed 13 million tonnes of certified pellets produced throughout the year. A recent survey revealed that 80% of certified companies consider the ENplus® seal essential to their business, while 82% reported improvements in internal quality management due to certification.

Supporting the Entire Pellet Industry

Companies choose ENplus® for various reasons, but all certified producers and traders benefit from an inclusive and responsive management system. In addition to the ENplus® Head Office, the scheme is locally managed and promoted by National Licensers and National Promoting Associations in 14 countries, ensuring close communication and support for certified businesses. The European Pellet Council (EPC), part of Bioenergy Europe, oversees ENplus®, ensuring continuous reinvestment in technical studies, communication efforts, and advocacy to promote the reputation and benefits of wood pellets.

Trustworthy and Transparent

ENplus® upholds transparency and accountability by assigning an individual identification number to every certified Producer, Trader, and Service Provider. This unique number appears on pellet bags, advertising materials, and delivery notes, allowing for easy traceability. ENplus® also leads in fraud prevention, having resolved over 950 fraud cases. With substantial resources dedicated to fraud prevention and efficient monitoring procedures, ENplus® ensures that the rights of all certified companies are protected, maintaining the scheme’s credibility and trustworthiness.
