Good Morning!

The winter mornings are kicking in, but with warm days!

Plastic Straws could be banned in England in a year. Environment Secretary Michael Gove has launched a consultation on the government's plan to ban the distribution and sale of plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds. The government is hoping to introduce the ban between October next year and October 2020. The consultation, which applies to England only, will consider exemptions to make sure people who need plastics to deal with medical conditions or accessibility issues are not affected. Under the plans, pharmacies would still be able to sell plastic straws and restaurants, pubs and bars could stock the items to be used on request. It is estimated that 4.7 billion plastic straws, 316 million plastic stirrers and 1.8 billion plastic-stemmed cotton buds are used each year in England.

Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness have been confirmed as the new hosts of Top Gear, taking over from Matt LeBlanc. The cricket star and Take Me Out host will join motoring journalist and racing driver Chris Harris in the BBC Two show's main presenting line-up from next year. Friends star LeBlanc announced he was leaving the motoring show earlier this year, after four series, saying he wanted to spend more time with his friends and family. He had joined the line-up in 2016, a surprise addition alongside Chris Evans following the departure of previous hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. LeBlanc's final shows will air early next year, with Flintoff and McGuinness due to start filming for the next series around the same time.

Temperatures across the UK will fall sharply, after a spell of unusually warm weather, according to Met Office forecasters. Brits can expect a 'shock to the system' this week as temperatures drop. Parts of Northern Scotland could see sleet and flurries of snow, while further south the mercury is unlikely to rise above single figures, the met office said. Some areas in the south of England enjoyed temperatures as high as 21°C over the weekend, but even those parts will feel the chill by the weekend. A Met Office spokesman said: "It will turn a lot colder as we head towards Friday and the weekend and the wind turns more northerly - we might see some sleet and wet snow in northern areas. "It will be a bit of a shock to the system because it's been fairly mild recently and there will be a considerable drop in temperature."
