Wednesday 15th August Blog

Hi All,

This past week or few's news has been eventful, not to mention the weather we've been having!

A climate report from the met office has revealed it's been hotter and wetter than at any other time in the past 100 years! The heatwave could even last for another 4 years, while scientists warn us about 'abnormally high' temperatures. It is partially due to global warming, but also because of a northerly shifting of the jet stream and cyclical winds that regulate the earth's temperature. That should be interesting....!

In other news, yesterday's crash in Westminster is being treated as a terror attack, after 29 year old Salih Khater drove into barriers outside the houses of parliament. This is the sixth attack in the UK over the past year and a half- Westminster Crash on 22nd March 17, Manchester on 22nd May 17, London Bridge on 3rd June 17, Finsbury Park on 19th June 17, Parsons Green on 15th September 17, and yesterday's.

A motorway bridge collapsed in Genoa, Italy yesterday. There are 39 victims after the Morandi Bridge collapsed 148ft with almost 40 vehicles falling with it. There have been previous reports and comments on how the bridge was built and how long it would stand. The state of the bridge and the response to the collapse has shed light on a long-standing discussion regarding Italian infrastructure, as this is the fifth ridge collapse in 5 years.

Last week we said goodbye to one half of The Chuckle Brothers, Barry. He and brother Paul won the nation over when they first appeared on TV in 1967 on Opportunity Knocks, followed by New Faces in 1974. They then went onto entertaining children with their show ChuckleVision (I loved this as a child). In April 2018, the brothers were in process of filming a new entertainment programme called Chuckle Time, and the first series ran. The second series was in doubt however after Barry became ill and could no longer work. Barry died aged 73 on the 5th August after a battle with cancer. To me, to you.
